Message to the members of WISTA International is addressed by the president Mrs Despina Panayiotou Theodosiou on the difficulties shipping has been going through in recent months. As he states: “these past few months have certainly been trying. The world continues to battle the pandemic, with some countries being at the height of it, and others preparing for a second wave.
As we learn to navigate this unprecedented situation, the values of WISTA prove more relevant than ever: Professional, Dynamic, Open-Minded, Committed. And I will add another important value here: Collaboration. In times of crisis, of a global turmoil, collaboration not only helps us through, but it can also provide opportunities, increase efficiency and help us create a sustainable future for all”.
Seafarers still stranded at the sea
The World Maritime Day that we celebrated recently emphasized this need for collaboration for a sustainable future. But we also need collaboration to solve the humanitarian crisis that our industry is facing due to Covid-19. Hundreds of thousands of seafarers are still stranded at sea, unable to see their families for months and working beyond their contract. We are grateful to them and their families for their sacrifice, resilience and dedication and we continue raising our voices for their safe and quick return home.
Last news, are that WISTA Guatemala has joined wista international, as the 52nd National WISTA Association. “WISTA continues to grow” Despoina Panayiotou Theodosiou says, expressing the hope that members will find a world of opportunities through the WISTA network.
